What Is a Rich Snippet?
A rich snippet is a search result enhanced with additional visual details beyond the standard title, URL, and description — star ratings, prices, cooking times, event dates, and similar extras.
Types of Rich Snippets
Common types include review and rating snippets, recipe snippets (cook time, calories, ratings), product snippets (price, availability), event snippets (date, location), and FAQ or how-to snippets that expand directly within the search result.
How to Get One
Rich snippets are generated from structured data markup added to a page, using the appropriate Schema.org type for the content (Recipe, Product, Review, FAQPage, and so on). Adding correct markup doesn’t guarantee a rich snippet will appear — Google decides when and whether to display one — but it’s a required prerequisite, and testing markup with Google’s Rich Results Test helps confirm it’s implemented correctly.
