Measurable Growth & Strategic Impact

I think you are a great presenter, and there is a need in the market, especially in the agency world, for agency owners to invest in facilitated team training rather than self-driven online training offered by platforms. This is great for team culture and better for professional development.

Why Medical SEO Is Different

Health is a “Your Money or Your Life” topic

Google applies its strictest quality standards to health content. It looks for clear evidence of who wrote the content, their qualifications and whether the site is trustworthy. Anonymous, generic health content struggles to rank, and it can undermine patient trust.

You compete with booking platforms and health giants

Booking platforms and large health sites take up much of page one. Practices win by being the best local answer: accurate practice information, real doctor profiles and pages built around local patient needs.

Advertising is regulated

Medical practices must follow the Ahpra advertising rules, which limit testimonials, outcome claims and use of titles like “specialist”. Many generic SEO tactics, like testimonial-heavy pages and “best clinic in town” claims, simply aren’t allowed.

Search typeExamplesWhat wins the booking
Find a doctor“GP near me”, “bulk billing doctor [suburb]”, “female GP [suburb]”Google Business Profile, location pages, doctor profiles
Service“skin check clinic”, “travel vaccinations”, “women’s health GP”Clear service pages with booking
Practical“GP open Sunday”, “after hours doctor”, “new patients welcome”Accurate hours, fees and availability
Specialist“dermatologist Sunshine Coast”, “cardiologist referral”Specialist practitioner and referral information

SEO for Real Estate

The Medical SEO Playbook

1. Set up your Google Business Profile

  • Primary category: Physiotherapist
  • Secondary categories (only those you offer): Sports medicine clinic, Pilates studio, Massage therapist (if your clinic offers it)
  • Services: each listed separately, e.g. “Sports physiotherapy”, “Dry needling”, “Clinical Pilates”, “Women’s health physiotherapy”, “Post-surgery rehabilitation”
  • Booking link: connect your online booking system so patients can book straight from Google
  • Photos: your clinic, treatment rooms, gym and Pilates equipment, and your team (no before-and-after or results imagery)
  • One profile per clinic location

For each doctor include:

  • their name, photo and qualifications
  • Ahpra registration (and specialist registration where it applies)
  • areas of interest and languages spoken
  • the days they work at each location
  • a booking link
  • links to any articles they’ve written or reviewed
  • Services: skin checks, women’s health, men’s health, children’s health, travel medicine, chronic disease management, mental health, aged care, procedures offered
  • Practical: fees and bulk billing policy, new patient information, after-hours care, telehealth, what to bring to your first appointment

Practical pages are some of the most-visited pages on any medical website. Keep them accurate.

  • Written for patients in plain English
  • Reviewed by a named doctor, with qualifications and a review date
  • Cites reputable sources (e.g. healthdirect, Australian government health resources and peer-reviewed guidance)
  • Explains when to seek urgent care
  • Never promises outcomes

Under section 133 of the National Law, advertising a regulated health service must not:

  • be false, misleading or deceptive
  • offer gifts or inducements without stating the terms
  • use testimonials (positive statements about clinical aspects of care)
  • create an unreasonable expectation of benefit
  • encourage unnecessary use of the service

For SEO, that means:

  • no patient testimonials about clinical care on your website, social media or ads
  • careful review replies: never confirm someone is a patient, and don’t repeat clinical claims
  • “specialist” only for doctors with specialist registration in that field
  • no “best”, “leading” or outcome claims you can’t substantiate

General information only. Check the Ahpra advertising guidelines, testimonial tool and Medical Board guidance for your practice.

Booking platforms (e.g. HotDoc and HealthEngine, if used), healthdirect’s service finder, local directories and your Google profile should all show the same practice name, address, phone and hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is medical SEO?

Medical SEO is the process of improving a medical practice’s visibility in Google search and Google Maps, so patients find the practice when they search for a doctor, a service or health information in their area. It includes your Google Business Profile, doctor profiles, service pages and trustworthy health content.
Health is a “Your Money or Your Life” topic, so Google applies stricter quality standards. Medical practices must also follow Ahpra’s advertising rules, which restrict testimonials, outcome claims and the use of titles like “specialist”.
Practices can’t use testimonials about clinical care in their advertising. Unsolicited Google reviews are treated differently, but you shouldn’t republish them or reply in ways that confirm patient relationships or amplify clinical claims. Check Ahpra’s current guidance.
It can help for larger practices, but it needs careful management. Profiles must be updated or removed when doctors leave, and they can split reviews. Many practices do best with a strong practice profile plus detailed doctor pages on the website.

SEO is one part of medical practice marketing. Marketing also includes Google Ads, social media, email and patient communication. All of it must follow Ahpra’s advertising rules.
