CLIENT SUCCESS STORIES

Measurable Growth & Strategic Impact

I think you are a great presenter, and there is a need in the market, especially in the agency world, for agency owners to invest in facilitated team training rather than self-driven online training offered by platforms. This is great for team culture and better for professional development.

Why Psychology SEO Is Different

Search typeExamplesWhat helps people choose
Location“psychologist near me”, “psychologist Maroochydore”Google Business Profile, location pages
Concern“psychologist for anxiety”, “trauma therapy”, “grief counselling”Compassionate, accurate concern pages
Client group“child psychologist”, “teen counselling”, “couples therapy”, “men’s mental health”Pages for each client group
Assessment“ADHD assessment adults”, “autism assessment”, “cognitive assessment”Clear process, cost and waitlist information
Practical“psychologist no waitlist”, “bulk billing psychologist”, “telehealth psychologist”, “NDIS psychologist”Up-to-date availability, fees and funding

Psychology is a health topic Google holds to its highest standards, your advertising is regulated by Ahpra, and the people searching are often vulnerable. Generic SEO covers none of that.

SEO for Psychologists

The Psychology SEO Playbook

1. Set up your Google Business Profile

  • Primary category: Psychologist
  • Secondary categories (only those that apply): Counselor, Psychotherapist, Mental health service, Family counselor, Marriage or relationship counselor
  • Services: each listed separately: individual therapy, couples therapy, child and adolescent psychology, ADHD assessment, telehealth sessions
  • Availability: keep hours, telehealth and new-client availability accurate. “Accepting new clients” is a strong conversion factor when waitlists are common.
  • Photos: welcoming rooms, the waiting area, the building entrance and your team. Help people feel comfortable before they arrive.

Each page should:

  • explain the concern in plain, non-stigmatising language
  • describe how a psychologist can help and which approaches are used (e.g. CBT, ACT, EMDR)
  • outline what to expect in the first session
  • list which psychologists work in this area
  • cover fees, rebates and funding
  • include a “reviewed by [psychologist name]” line and a review date
  • include crisis support information (e.g. “If you’re in crisis, call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or 000 in an emergency”)

Name, photo, qualifications, Ahpra registration, any area of practice endorsement (e.g. clinical psychology), therapeutic approaches, client groups, days available and telehealth availability. Many clients choose a practitioner, not a practice, so this is your most important conversion content.

  • Fees and gap payments
  • Medicare rebates and GP referrals (Mental Health Treatment Plans). Keep these updated, because rules and session limits change.
  • NDIS, workers’ compensation, DVA and private health funding
  • Telehealth
  • Waitlists and new-client availability

Under section 133 of the National Law, advertising a regulated health service must not:

  • be false, misleading or deceptive
  • offer gifts or inducements without stating the terms
  • use testimonials (positive statements about clinical aspects of care)
  • create an unreasonable expectation of benefit
  • encourage unnecessary use of the service

In practice:

  • no client testimonials about therapy on your website, social media or ads
  • review replies that never confirm someone is a client: keep them general and invite contact privately
  • “clinical psychologist” only with the relevant area of practice endorsement
  • no promises of outcomes or “cure” language

General information only. Check Ahpra’s advertising guidelines and the Psychology Board’s guidance for your practice.

Don’t send sensitive information (such as a concern selected in a form) to analytics or ad platforms. Track that an enquiry happened, not what it was about.

Psychologists can’t use testimonials about clinical aspects of care in their advertising. Unsolicited Google reviews are treated differently, but you shouldn’t republish them or reply in a way that confirms someone is a client. Check Ahpra’s current advertising guidance.
