SEO for Physiotherapists

Most people don’t search for “physiotherapist”. They search for their problem: “physio for lower back pain near me”, “sports physio Maroochydore”, “dry needling Noosa”, “women’s health physio”. Physio clinics that rank for those searches fill their books. Clinics that rely on one generic “Services” page don’t. SEO for physiotherapists from ALC is built around how patients actually search, within the Ahpra advertising rules your clinic has to follow.

Online booking clicks, calls and forms tracked properly, so every month you can see how many appointments came from Google.

CLIENT SUCCESS STORIES

Measurable Growth & Strategic Impact

I think you are a great presenter, and there is a need in the market, especially in the agency world, for agency owners to invest in facilitated team training rather than self-driven online training offered by platforms. This is great for team culture and better for professional development.

Why Physio SEO Is Different

Search typeExamplesWhat wins the booking
Location“physio near me”, “physio Buderim”, “physiotherapist Caloundra”Strong Google Business Profile and location pages
Condition“physio for back pain”, “shoulder pain physio”, “sciatica treatment”Helpful condition pages, reviewed by a physio
Treatment“dry needling”, “clinical Pilates”, “hydrotherapy”, “vestibular physio”Treatment pages explaining what’s involved
Patient type“sports physio”, “women’s health physio”, “kids physio”, “NDIS physio”, “DVA physio”Dedicated pages for each patient group

On top of that, physio is a health topic Google holds to a higher standard, and your advertising is regulated by Ahpra. Generic local SEO advice covers neither.

SEO for Real Estate

The Physio SEO Playbook

1. Set up your Google Business Profile

  • Primary category: Physiotherapist
  • Secondary categories (only those you offer): Sports medicine clinic, Pilates studio, Massage therapist (if your clinic offers it)
  • Services: each listed separately, e.g. “Sports physiotherapy”, “Dry needling”, “Clinical Pilates”, “Women’s health physiotherapy”, “Post-surgery rehabilitation”
  • Booking link: connect your online booking system so patients can book straight from Google
  • Photos: your clinic, treatment rooms, gym and Pilates equipment, and your team (no before-and-after or results imagery)
  • One profile per clinic location
Page typeExamples
ConditionsLower back pain, neck pain, shoulder injuries, knee pain, sciatica, headaches, ankle sprains
TreatmentsDry needling, clinical Pilates, hydrotherapy, exercise rehabilitation, vestibular rehab
Patient groupsSports physio, women’s health, paediatric, NDIS, DVA, workers’ compensation and CTP
PracticalFees and health funds, what to expect at your first appointment, do I need a referral?

Each condition page should explain:

  • what the condition is
  • common causes
  • how physiotherapy can help
  • what treatment may involve
  • when to seek other medical care

It should also include a “reviewed by [physio name], [qualifications]” line and a review date. Explain; don’t promise outcomes.

Name, photo, qualifications, Ahpra registration, areas of interest, the conditions they commonly treat and the locations they work at. This is one of the strongest trust signals for a health website.

Under section 133 of the National Law, advertising a regulated health service must not:

  • be false, misleading or deceptive
  • offer gifts or inducements without stating the terms
  • use testimonials (positive statements about clinical aspects of care)
  • create an unreasonable expectation of benefit
  • encourage unnecessary use of the service

In practice for SEO:

  • Don’t publish patient testimonials about treatment outcomes on your website or social media
  • Don’t reply to Google reviews in a way that repeats or endorses clinical claims, and never confirm someone is a patient
  • Do respond to reviews politely and generally (“Thanks for your feedback, we’d love to discuss this further. Please call the clinic.”)
  • Avoid words like “cure”, “guaranteed” or “pain-free”, and outcome promises
  • Avoid “specialist” unless you hold relevant specialist recognition

General information only. Check Ahpra’s advertising guidelines and testimonial tool, or get advice for your clinic.

Health directories and booking platforms (e.g. HealthEngine and HotDoc, if you use them), Australian Physiotherapy Association “Find a Physio”, health fund provider directories and local directories, all with consistent clinic details.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SEO for physiotherapists?

SEO for physiotherapists is the process of getting a physio clinic to appear in Google Maps and Google search when people look for a physio, a treatment or help with a specific condition in their area. It covers your Google Business Profile, condition and treatment pages, practitioner profiles, and local listings.

Physio clinics can’t use testimonials about clinical aspects of care in their advertising. Unsolicited reviews on third-party sites like Google are treated differently, but you shouldn’t republish, share or reply to them in ways that amplify clinical claims. Check Ahpra’s advertising guidance for current rules.

SEO is one part of physiotherapy marketing. Marketing also includes social media, Google Ads, email to existing patients and referral relationships with GPs and specialists. SEO is the long-term channel that keeps bringing in new patients without paying for every click.

Most clinics see early improvements in Google Maps within two to three months, especially in less competitive suburbs. Condition and treatment pages usually take three to six months to rank well.

Yes. Each clinic gets its own Google Business Profile and location page, while condition and treatment pages are built once and shared.
