What Is an Internal Link?
An internal link is a hyperlink that connects one page on your website to another page on that same website, as opposed to an external link, which points to a different domain.
Benefits of Internal Linking
Internal links help search engines discover new and existing pages, distribute link equity across your site (a highly linked-to page passes some of its authority to the pages it links out to), and establish topical relationships that reinforce what each page is about. For users, they simply help people find related, useful content and stay on your site longer.
Best Practices
Use descriptive, keyword-relevant anchor text rather than generic phrases like “click here.” Link to your most important pages more often than less important ones, so the internal structure reflects genuine priority. Avoid orphaning pages by making sure every page you want indexed and ranking is reachable through at least one internal link.
