What Is a Google Knowledge Panel?

A Knowledge Panel is the information box, usually appearing on the right side of desktop search results, that summarizes key facts about a recognised entity — a person, business, organisation, or topic — pulled largely from the Knowledge Graph.

How Knowledge Panels Are Generated

Google assembles panels automatically from a mix of structured data on your website, information from Wikipedia and Wikidata, your Google Business Profile (for local businesses), and other authoritative sources it trusts. There’s no direct submission form for most entities; it’s generated algorithmically based on how confidently Google can identify and verify who or what you are.

How to Claim or Improve Yours

For businesses, claiming and fully completing a Google Business Profile is the most direct lever. Beyond that, adding structured data (Organisation or Person schema) to your site, maintaining a Wikipedia or Wikidata entry where appropriate, and keeping information consistent across the web all improve the odds Google surfaces an accurate panel — and lets you “claim” some panels via Google’s “Claim this knowledge panel” feature once one exists.
