What Is an SEO Silo?

An SEO silo is a content structure that groups closely related pages together and interlinks them densely, while deliberately limiting links between unrelated topic areas, to reinforce clear topical focus for search engines.

How to Structure One

A silo typically starts with a broad category or pillar page, branching into more specific subtopic pages that link back to the category page and to each other. Some strict silo approaches extend this to URL structure itself (/topic-a/subtopic-1/), keeping the hierarchy visible in the site’s architecture, not just its internal links.

Why It Helps Rankings

By concentrating internal links within a topic area, a silo reinforces to search engines exactly what a group of pages is collectively about, building stronger topical relevance and authority than a looser, more randomly interlinked structure would. It’s essentially a more disciplined version of the broader content hub or topic cluster approach.
