What Is a Cached Page?

A cached page is a stored snapshot of a webpage that a search engine saved the last time it crawled that URL, capturing what the page looked like at that point in time.

What It’s Used For

Cached versions historically let users view a page even if the live site was temporarily down, and they’re still useful for spotting exactly what content Google last saw on a page — helpful for diagnosing indexing issues or confirming whether recent changes have been picked up yet.

How to View a Page’s Cache

Google removed its dedicated “cached” link from search results several years ago, so checking a cache today generally means using third-party tools like the Wayback Machine, or Google Search Console’s URL Inspection tool to see the last-crawled version of a page directly from Google’s own data.
